Simon Donovan’s professional theatre journey began the moment he graduated from Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, when he was cast in the UK and International Tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Evita. Straight out of drama school, he toured across Europe, performing in some of the continent’s most prestigious opera houses — a breakthrough that set the stage for an exciting and varied career.
His theatre credits span the classics to contemporary works, including Ambrose Kemper (u/s Cornelius Hackle) in Hello, Dolly! at Leicester Curve alongside Janie Dee and Michael Xavier, Jean Bilodeau in the UK Premier of Michel Marc Bouchard’s play, Lilies (Best Actor Nomination – Dublin Theatre Festival), a Gala Special of Crazy for You at the London Palladium, and the UK Premier of Through the Door at Trafalgar Studios with Julie Atherton. This body of work reflects Simon’s versatility and passion for both beloved revivals and new writing.
Internationally, Simon has enjoyed a close relationship with the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, touring his solo concert ’Til I Hear You Sing, before being invited back to perform as Marius in Les Misérables with the same company.
In 2024, Simon relocated to Australia, marking a new and exciting chapter in his artistic journey. With the support of renowned vocal coaches Andrew Ross and Jennifer Peers, he reignited his passion for the stage and was soon signed to FWD MGMT (part of the Jeep Group). In 2025, Simon made his Sydney debut at the celebrated VIVID Festival, performing at Mary’s Underground as part of the Supper Club Cabaret Season. He was also invited to perform as Featured Vocalist at the Local Business Awards 2026, produced by Precedent Productions.
Most recently, Simon has been cast as Dan Goodman in Sydney Musical Theatre’s production of Next to Normal, running at the Greenhalgh Theatre, Lindfield in July 2026 — a role that marks a significant milestone in his Australian career. He continues to audition across Australia, building strong relationships with leading casting directors and creatives.
Simon’s screen work includes appearing in the BBC drama Best Possible Taste: The Kenny Everett Story, originating the role of Matthew in the TV pilot Living with Jesus, and most recently fronting the 2025 Great Northern Beer campaign, filmed in the wilds of the Australian outback.
Alongside his performing career, Simon has been a dedicated singing teacher since 2010. His students have gone on to train at leading drama schools and secure professional roles, most recently in the sold-out concert production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame at the Prince Edward Theatre, London. Simon continues to coach students internationally and welcomes new talent to his studio.
Simon trained at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, graduating with a First-Class BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre Performance (UEA). Roles whilst training included, Tony in West Side Story, Al Deluca in A Chorus Line, Ben/Sugar/Mrs Silverman/Sister Philomena/Danny in Kander and Ebb’s The Rink.
His love for performing began in childhood — first discovered when a primary school teacher encouraged him to sing, and nurtured further when he played Joseph in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat in his high school’s first ever musical production. From those early beginnings to international tours and Australian festivals, Simon’s journey remains rooted in a deep passion for music, storytelling, and the stage.
